The Mount is a place of peace and great beauty where your gifts of service are needed and appreciated. We offer a unique opportunity to join the Mount’s Volunteers in a group endeavor that will make a positive difference to your own life and to the world.
What are the Volunteer Opportunities?
Volunteer opportunities fall into five areas:
- Events
- Office & Tea Room Assistance
- Gardening
- Maintenance
- Weekend Docents
Each area is supervised by a coordinator from Meditation Mount.
Events
For people who like to create beautiful events or work with the public. Most events are in the evenings and on weekends. Work includes marketing, publicity, graphic arts and editing, setting up chairs, flowers and candles, greeting and registering guests and helping cleanup. Assistance with sound, audio and video is always welcomed. For some events we also seek help with catering.
Weekend Docents
For people who enjoy meeting people and showing them around. Work includes learning about the Meditation Mount history, operating the Tea Room, gardens, and facilities, and greeting visitors to the Mount. Work is on the weekends.
Volunteers are supervised by the Resident Director, Ellen Hall.
Office Assistance
For people who are computer savvy and like to work alone, during the day. Work includes Tea Room presence, making copies, data entry, assisting Caitlin Jean Petersen, the Office Administrator, with event coordination, and posting flyers in designated business locations in Ojai, Ventura, and Santa Barbara.
Gardening
For people who like to work outdoors and have a connection with the plant kingdom. Work includes planting, watering, weeding, pruning, mowing and harvesting throughout the seasons as well as raking and sweeping as needed. (Note: Gardening work may involve lifting or carrying BUT we have other gardening activities too.)
Maintenance
For skilled people who like to troubleshoot and fix mechanical things or enjoy repairs, construction, cleaning and tidying. Work includes painting and repairs to electrical, plumbing and irrigation lines.
Volunteers are supervised by the Land Steward, Tim Hall.
