A House Divided

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.” – Abraham Lincoln

The Principle of Unanimity affirms that all aspects of Creation constitute the interdependent and integral elements of a cohesive and variegated expression of One Life. And yet, it would appear from looking at the state of the world today, that we are a ‘house divided’. There are cultural, political, economical and religious divisions cutting off parts of humanity from each other. Each nation and community harbors these divisions, making it extremely challenging to govern fairly, live together free from fear and adequately take care of those in genuine need.

When a living system is fractured and fragmented, the circulation of resources cannot flow to all its constituent parts. When supply channels become blocked and walls are erected between peoples, the necessary provisions intended to nourish and serve the general welfare do not reach their designated destination. If it is true that, ‘right circulation of energy and resources is the hallmark of a healthy system’ then our present society is in danger of becoming impoverished and diseased.

It is not only nations that are suffering. Many people live inside a ’house divided’. Individual lives can be rife with examples highlighting a ‘disconnect’ between needs and resources, ideals and behaviors, promises and actions and where sadly, the Soul and personality are not on speaking terms. Bridging the gap and establishing communication and cooperation between these two vital components can be accomplished through the applied science and practice of meditation.

Here at Meditation Mount, we utilize Creative Meditation as a pragmatic way of fashioning this natural bridge of resonance between the Soul and personality to facilitate the ‘outward’ expression of the promise and potential of that which lives on the ‘inside’ as our Essential Divinity. Creative Meditation is a practice of precipitating the aspirations and qualities of the Soul into useful and tangible forms of daily living that serve the common good.

The pathway that dismantles divisions and leads us towards a realization of the Principle of Unanimity is Group Endeavor. It is the natural urge of the soul to work together with others in service of all life. Group Endeavor is the needed antidote to the sickness of a ‘house divided’ that currently plagues our world.

“In a real sense all life is inter-related. All persons are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be. This is the inter-related structure of reality.”
– Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.
