Pisces Full Moon

by Ron Thurlow, Ph.D., Esoteric Astrologer

The Pisces Full Moon highlights the human evolution of consciousness from unevolved, instinctive and survival-based animal man, all the way to our final realization of pure soul identity. Pisces shines a spot light on all the phases in between: from emotionally-centered and reactionary mass consciousness to individually identified, intellectually and mind-based, integrated personality.

Human beings evolve through cycles of experience. As our physical, emotional and mental bodies evolve into finer and finer structures, the consciousness that moves through these structures advances with them. The impulse to create a new form begins in Aries, the first sign in the zodiac. The completion of the human evolutionary cycle occurs in Pisces, the twelfth and last sign in the zodiac. As human souls, we get to test our evolutionary progress many times in each zodiacal sign.

In her book, “Esoteric Astrology”, Alice A. Bailey states:
“In Aries we have the duality which is attached to the bringing together of spirit and matter in the great creative activity of manifestation at the beginning of the evolutionary cycle, whilst in Pisces we have the fusion or blending of soul and form as far as man is concerned, producing the manifestation of the Incarnated Christ, the perfected individual soul, the completed manifestation of the microcosm. Thus the greater and the lesser polar opposites—the human being and God, the microcosm and the macrocosm—are brought to their destined expression and manifestation.”

We always have to consider each zodiacal sign in relationship to its opposite. In this case, the opposite of Pisces is Virgo. The interplay between these two signs influences the evolution of consciousness by relating back and forth between emotional/astral experience in Pisces to the intellectual thinking process in Virgo. Gradually, the fluid, psychic nature in Pisces is transformed into sensitive intuition and the critical, judgmental thinking in Virgo is transformed into abstract thought and reason- based creativity. As our hearts open and we become more sensitive to our environment, we begin to align with the direction of our awaking soul.

Humanity, as a race has progressed to the stage where we can, as individuals, begin to know ourselves as souls and function in our everyday lives as our conscience dictates. Because, what is the “conscience” but the soul speaking to us through the “still small voice” within?

A large subsection of humanity today is struggling with the challenges that beset a soul when it is beginning to gain control of its personality. This struggle looks different with each individual, but it always relates to the opening of the heart and the impulse to serve humanity and to make the world better in some way.

The symbol for Pisces is the two fishes. The two fishes are held together symbolically by the “silver cord” or the umbilical cord. The fishes are a representation of the soul and the personality held together during the whole evolutionary human cycle. In exoteric astrology, the prison is frequently used to symbolize the Piscean experience. The reason is that throughout the human experience the soul is symbolically imprisoned in the form. The second important symbol assigned to Pisces is death. Death plays an integral role in the evolution of consciousness. The destruction of old forms is necessary so new, more adapted forms can be created. Death only destroys the form aspect, never the consciousness or life aspects. The light of life and of consciousness continues after death and until a new form is created that better enables the next step in the evolving soul’s journey. Nothing in this process is arbitrary. The universe is in perfect order and the end is assured from the beginning. The end for every soul is self-realization and spiritual Mastery.

Meditation is one of the ways that we find to help us recognize our true identity as an incarnated soul. We begin to realize that our physical, emotional and mental faculties are only forms for the expression of soul purpose. This process involves the cultivation of humility within the personality and eventually, the total surrender of ego identity. Simultaneously and magically, we experience a shift to identification as soul. This begins the journey to the soul’s identity with spirit which leads to Mastery or as it is referred to in the metaphysical books, Christ Consciousness.

Pisces is most notably associated with the birth of the Christ in human form. Each of the world religions is inspired by a perfected spiritual master. Christians refer to Jesus Christ as a savior, meaning that he came to Earth to save humanity from its selfishness and ignorance. Which was also true of Buddha, Zoroaster, Krishna, Muhammad and Abraham. Each manifestation of God brought a new dispensation of light, love and wisdom to a suffering humanity. Many in each of the world religions today await a new manifestation of Christ Consciousness, whether it is called Maître, the messiah or by another name. The hope is for a new dispensation of light and love that will finally bring peace to planet earth.

The keynote for Pisces is: “I leave the Father’s house and turning back, I save.”
