With the Cancer full moon in July, we examined the form side of earthly existence, the consciousness of the kingdoms of nature and the profound wisdom of the Mother of the World. During the Leo full moon, we explored the evolution of individual consciousness. We looked at consciousness through the lens of the development of individualized identity. During the full moon in Virgo, we will look at how Virgo influences the integration of these two states of evolution in consciousness ─ individual consciousness governed by Leo and mass consciousness governed by Cancer. Virgo rules the entire process that leads to self-realization and ultimately to the complete fusion of personality and soul.
For most of human evolution the soul is hidden deep within the womb of Virgo. During its long gestation period, Virgo nurtures and protects the soul until the person can experience and respond to the finer vibration of the hidden soul within. Gradually, through its magnetic presence, the soul is revealed to the person. For the complete fusion of soul and person to occur, the personal ego must relinquish its separate identity and risk total surrender. The person’s surrender must be all-embracing — moved by the heart, and filled with humility and unconditional love.
The lessons of Virgo are complicated by the person’s need for security and order. Virgo is noted for its propensity for perfectionism and the love of an orderly mind —sometimes, to the extreme. There comes a point, however, when reason and wisdom overshadow logic in the Virgo mind and then real change begins to occur. Feeling the inner spiritual impulse can cause the person to question everything. And the Virgo mind discovers that the order created by logic alone is not sufficient to account for its spiritual experience and the awakening of the soul within.
As the soul begins to dominate the personality, important shifts occur. The person begins to accept its true role and function: which is to be the vehicle for the soul’s expression on the physical plane. When the soul rules the personality, the direction of our life changes from isolation to inclusion. And its focus changes from self-interest to altruism. The person is then motivated by goodwill, love and compassion. Its focus becomes service to humanity. And, it understands that its purpose is to fulfill its part in the Divine Plan.
To get from personality identification to full soul-person fusion, we must face many obstacles and challenges. The patterns and habits of ordinary human behavior are difficult to master and require a true desire to follow the heart down the spiritual path.
Following is a quote from “Esoteric Astrology” by Alice A. Bailey regarding this very difficult task. She said:
“Shirk not these crises, hard and difficult though they may appear to be. Difficult they are. Forget not that the habit of confronting crisis is a long-established one within the consciousness of humanity. Man has the ‘habit of crisis’ if I may so call it. They are the points of examination as to strength, purpose, purity and motive and the intent of the soul. They evoke confidence, when surmounted, and produce greatly expanded vision. They foster compassion and understanding, for the pain and inner conflict they have engendered is never forgotten, for they draw upon the resources of the heart. They release the light of wisdom within the field of knowledge and the world is thereby enriched.”
The Keyword for Virgo is: “I am the mother and the child. I, God, I matter am.”
