The Art & Culture of Tibet
May 24, 2015 | 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
A group of eleven Tibetan Buddhist Monks are bringing the Mystical Arts of Tibet to Ojai. The monks are world class performers, artists and spiritual teachers. Endorsed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, they tour as a means of promoting world peace and healing through sacred performing art.
On Sunday, May 24th from 7 to 9pm, they will share their art and philosophy at Meditation Mount, performing traditional chanting, throat singing and playing Tibetan instruments. The honorable Gala Rinpoche will speak about the practice and purpose of the sand art mandala, and answer questions about Buddhist philosophy in day-to-day life. This is an event that will lift your spirit to new heights! No RSVP necessary.
These highly trained artists will spend a week creating a magnificent Tibetan Buddhist sand mandala. They will hold their opening ceremony at 2pm on Sunday, May 24th, at Byron Katie’s Center for The Work at 213 N. Montgomery Street in downtown Ojai. Throughout the week you are invited to watch the mandala emerge as the monks work painstakingly and meticulously, grain by grain.
Viewing at the Center for the Work will be open Sunday 2-5, Monday 10-7, Tuesday 10-4, Wednesday 10-7, Thursday 10-5 and Friday 10-6. On Friday at 6pm when the mandala is complete, the monks will perform a beautiful ceremony to sweep away the countless hours of this masterful creation and return the sand to the water, representing the states of impermanence and non-attachment.
