After the Thomas Fire
Frequently Asked Questions
The Thomas Fire completely destroyed one of our residential structures which took considerable time for testing for toxins and debris removal, which has now been completed. We are also in the process of restoring and reconstructing the Garden and certain elements of that process need to be finalized first.
Our primary loss was a residential structure. Our Auditorium also sustained damage to our windows and doors. All structures have been affected by smoke. Then there is the Garden which suffered significant damage and is in the process of being rehabilitated. Lastly, a significant amount of our undeveloped landscaping was burned and scorched.
We are working toward being able to open the Garden on a limited basis, most probably weekends only. When this will begin will be announced on our website, meditationmount.org, as well in an email. There is work that needs to be done on the Auditorium and most likely that will not be ready until early in 2019.
As soon as we can be more specific, this will be indicated on our website. The situation will require us to ascertain the type and scale of the wedding and match it to our capability. We do not want to promise something that we cannot deliver.
The Mount does have insurance and claims have been submitted. However, not all of our losses are fully covered.
The initial objective is to focus on structural elements such as the boulders and rocks, the walking path, drip irrigation system, the pond, fencing, and restoration of the Peace Portal. Then we can focus on the various plantings. To accomplish all of the above could take up to a year.
Once the Auditorium is ready to be open to the public we expect that our Full Moon Meditations will commence then.
We have no date at this time by when the Auditorium may be available. We would be happy to take your name and email address via our contact form and keep you informed of our status.
We have a list of email addresses of those who have already offered to volunteer. Our next step will be to poll those who have offered their assistance as to the various kinds of assistance they could
offer. If interested, please send an email to:
