Muses on the Mount Presents: Philip Graulty Recording – February 19, 2022

Muses on the Mount is a new series intended to call in and welcome a much need Renaissance of the Soul through the Arts. Meditation Mount is pleased to showcase musicians, artists, poets, and other Muses each month for a special event that can be enjoyed live in-person and live-streamed online.

Muses on the Mount is pleased to present a concert with Philip Graulty. Philip Graulty is a Los Angeles-based guitarist and composer whose musical world lies at the intersection of classical and folk music traditions. His artistic practice explores music as a form of memorial, offering, and healing, and his unique approach to the guitar is informed by myriad fingerstyle genres, including classical guitar, slack-key guitar, and desert blues.

For this intimate outdoor concert overlooking the Ojai Valley at golden hour, Philip will perform a selection of original and arranged works for solo guitar. From the traditional hymn “Amazing Grace,” a universal prayer for hope in times of suffering, to his original piece “Mijo,” written in memory of a loved one lost to COVID-19, Philip intends for this hour-long musical offering to be a source of comfort and healing for all who attended.

In 2021, Philip released his debut solo EP, Won’t You Help To Sing? A work that was created in response to the murder of George Floyd. Inspired by the African proverb “When you pray, move your feet,” this collection of hymns and protest songs is meant to serve as both a call to prayer for victims of police violence and a call to action for racial justice. His current body of work memorializes loved ones he lost over the past two years.

In addition to his work as a solo artist, Philip is a co-founder of Bridge to Everywhere, a new music collective that explores connections between diverse musical traditions, and the guitar ensembles Ikat Quartet and Los Angeles Electric 8. Performance highlights include Oakland Museum of California, Strathmore Guitar Festival, Angel City Jazz Festival, LA Phil’s Minimalist Jukebox Festival, and the Solo International Performing Arts Festival in Surakarta, Indonesia. Philip received his M.M. from UCLA and is on the music faculties of Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Please enjoy this recording of PHILIP GRAULTY live at the Meditation Mount viewpoint in Ojai, California.
