Visit From The Brown Bear

The pond in the International Garden of Peace is truly a Group Endeavor reflecting those words carved into the boulder at the edge of the pond. The participants are the stones, water, plants, the fish and frogs, the water lilies, the sun activating the solar pump to create the waterfall and its sound, the insects such as the bees and dragon flies. But the magic happens when the humans leave and night falls. The pond becomes a watering hole for the vast array of wildlife from the wilderness that surrounds the Mount. In the morning we find tracks of coyotes, deer, raccoons, bobcats, bunnies, and snakes. But last week we had a visitor that left some huge tracks – a California Brown Bear.

The drought is making our pond very popular gathering place.
